Plan one mug for each person who will use it
Write a short list of names, photos and colours before you start. Individual portraits make it easy to tell whose mug is whose. You can include partners, grandparents and pet-loving relatives without choosing the same character for everyone. A couple photograph can be a thoughtful shared design when both faces remain clear.
Coordinate the design without losing their personality
Use snowflakes across the set and let each person choose cranberry, holly or frosty blue. Or make a Santa squad with different names and portraits. An elf cartoon suits someone who enjoys playful styling; the original photo is a good option for a relative who prefers a faithful photograph. Each design is reviewed and approved separately.
Keep family jokes inclusive and easy to enjoy
Titles such as “Wrapping supervisor”, “Christmas pudding critic” and “Keeper of the remote” work when the recipient enjoys the joke. Ask before using a nickname or childhood picture they may dislike. Leave off ages, surnames or relationships you are unsure about. A simple first name can be more useful than a long seasonal inscription.
